So, we tried to go down to the East Atlanta Beer Festival (www.eabfonline.com), but like an idiot did not purchase tickets online ahead of time. I'm not sure if it was the excellent weather that day or what, but when we arrived the line was around the block and we were being told it was sold out. Time for a backup plan... The new 5-Seasons Westside (www.5seasonsbrewing.com)! As we parked, I could smell wort boiling and I knew that they were brewing. After a quick ook around, we decided to go next door to Hop City before getting started. We tooled around Hop City for a bit checking out their selection before heading back to 5 Seasons and getting a table. Opting for the upstairs seating was a great choice as it was a beautiful day with a nice breeze. The bartender took our order and I started with the Dark Star Stout. It was a great flavored stout, but I don't think it was carbonating as it seemed a little flat. Each of us then got a flight of the other three beers that we hadn't tried. The IPA was probably my favorite followed closely by the Golden Number Ale. Stimulus Package was a fine easy drinking session beer that also had a good flavor. I mentioned to the bartender that I was a home brewer and she said that we should go downstairs and check out the brewery. We got to meet Crawford Moran and Matt, who showed us around and told a little about what they were brewing. Thanks for the hospitality guys! Crawford mentioned that they had just turned on the Octane Stout so we headed back upstairs to give it a shot. Lot's of espresso kick in that stout, it's well worth ordering. All in all it turned out to be a great day even though we missed our original destination. Looking forward to more 5 Seasons goodness. -chuck
