Take a little bit of late night boredom, combine it with a few articles about multi-boxing WoW accounts during lunchtime and throw in the technical challenge of getting it all working on Linux and you've got an entertaining evening. I've been reading about multi-boxing for a couple of months and while it had seemed interesting, I never really felt like devoting the time to level more toons. A couple of weeks ago, Blizzard introduced the Recruit-a-Friend program which includes a nice XP boost. That sealed it. Having a dual monitor setup on my rig, it didn't take long to get two game windows up and running. I set up a trial account with RAF and good to go. The next trick was getting keyboard sync between the two windows. I immediately started trying to solve the problem with python, but it turned out to be more easily solved. I had read a nice article here: Turns out, Autohotkeys works nicely under Wine. All you need to do is edit your ahk file with the keys you want just like the post above. The run the AHK Script Compiler with Wine. Now that you have an EXE of your script, fire up your game windows and log in to your toons. Once logged in, run Wine on the AHK exe that you created. Go back to your main WoW window and you should now see duplicated keyboard events in both Windows. Right now, I'm playing around with two mages. Beats the hell out of tanking! Enjoy! |

Progress at week 3
Dinged 49 last night. They're at around 36 hours played now. The levelling speed is not too bad considering my relaxed play schedule.

Progress at 1 week
With a casual play schedule of about and hour a night, I hit 24 with my mages in a week. Theyr'e sitting around 14 hours /played. Some of that time was setting up macros and working on the AHK script.
