Automatic Grade Calculator

This tool was written for my wife who is a second grade elementary school teacher. She was tired of using her calculator to figure out a student's grade percentage on tests and quizzes and asked if I could make a page where she could input the number of questions and have a quick reference chart with the grade percentages generated.

So, here it is, Ms. Rushing's Quick Grades Calculator!

In search of beer.

So, we tried to go down to the East Atlanta Beer Festival (www.eabfonline.com), but like an idiot did not purchase tickets online ahead of time. I'm not sure if it was the excellent weather that day or what, but when we arrived the line was around the block and we were being told it was sold out.

Time for a backup plan...

TwigFu Brew - Batch #3 Summer Blonde

A couple of weeks ago I went up to the folks place in Cleveland, TN to bottle my Irish Amber Ale. Since it was a three day weekend we decided to go ahead and start another batch the next day. This time we're shooting for a light crisp Summer Blonde Ale for the hot days coming up.

Mirroring Fedora repositories with mrepo

One of the things that we need to support our linux development environment is an local mirror of the Fedora and Centos repositorites in our LAN. We accomplished this by using mrepo from RPMForge.

The server that houses the repositories is currently built on RHEL 5.2. We installed the RPMForge yum configuration from here: http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/ and then performed a 'yum install mrepo' to install the service.

TwigFu Brew - Irish Amber Batch#2

Here we go again!

This time I decided to brew an Irish Amber. I put together a recipe using a 70/30 mix of 2-row pale malt and wheat malt with some different grades of Crystal malt and a little Special B for color. The shop didn't have the hops I had originally planned, so I'm trying some varieties that are new to me.

I wish it were Wine-Thirty again

Here's a little bit about our amazing getaway to the Beechwood Inn in Clayton, Ga back at the beginning of April. Thank you David and Gayle for providing everything we needed as we recharged and explored Rabun. Salut!

TwigFu Brew - American Wheat Batch #1

And here are the results of my first ever all-grain brewing experience. American Wheat Batch #1.

From Beers

How did we do? ...

TwigFu is all about Brew

A little before Christmas, I started to reminisce about some of my dad's beer brewing experiments. On several occasions I helped him brew a batch. We had some good results and some not so good results. He always used extract kits, but my elevated level of nerd ego had me thinking, 'Hey, why not do it the right way!'

XFX 790i Ultra Unresolved Lockups

I've been mostly pleased with the XFX 790i Ultra / Core 2 Duo E8400 combo. The only thing that's really disappointing is the occasional lockup while running games or playing at DVD.

Currently, the system is running Kubuntu 8.04. I put together a little tool in python to monitor the CPU / GPU temps. I'll probably post the script once I get it a little more refined. Anyway, I'm averaging about 44-49C on the CPU and 45-58C on the nVidia 8600GT. I'm pretty sure it's not a thermal lockup.

Fun with WoW Multi-boxing

Take a little bit of late night boredom, combine it with a few articles about multi-boxing WoW accounts during lunchtime and throw in the technical challenge of getting it all working on Linux and you've got an entertaining evening.

I've been reading about multi-boxing for a couple of months and while it had seemed interesting, I never really felt like devoting the time to level more toons. A couple of weeks ago, Blizzard introduced the Recruit-a-Friend program which includes a nice XP boost. That sealed it.
